Barrier Acoustics launch

29th August 2007

Bad acoustics can make or break a good recording. To close the gap between excellent musicians on a recording budget and existing professional recording studios, Barrier Productions has developed an affordable, professional solution for young up, coming studios, and band practice rooms to help improve acoustics and sound proofing.

After two and a half years of development, Barrier Productions today launched a new range, of locally manufactured acoustic treatment panels under the name of Barrier Acoustics. At launch, the range will consist of five retail products namely, Pyramid, Wedge, Corrugated, Corner Base blocks and Base traps.

The biggest driver for this project was to keep the price down but at the same time, provide the local market with a professional product. When we started the process of building our recording studio in Kempton Park, we found that in order to treat room acoustics, you had to have large amounts of money or you had to be inventive, and come up with your own ideas. At the same time, we have seen so many young people start there own studio’s, only to land up with bad sounding recordings all because of the bad planning and room acoustics, comments Kevin Barnard of Barrier Productions.

Our product range will consist of the following to start of with:

BA70PP      Wall or Ceiling pyramid panel of 600\600\70mm

BA70CP      Wall or Ceiling corrugated panel of 600\600\70 mm

BA70WP      Wall or Ceiling Wedge panel of 600\600\70mm

BA310BT     Base trap panel of 310\310\600 mm

BA350BL     Corner block of 350mm Sq

Over the next 6 months, we intend to diversify the range by adding new products that will best fit the customer’s needs and budget.

So when deciding to make use of any acoustic products, it’s important to note that the Barrier Acoustic sound panels were specifically developed for the treatment of sound (echo, flutter and reverberation). Our products work by converting the acoustic energy in the room, and preventing it from being reflected back into the room, which would otherwise cause interference. The goal is to improve sound with this product and not use it as a soundproofing tool. Barrier Productions can do soundproofing but we would prefer to consult on this subject and not provide the products through retail music stores.

Pricing for the Barrier Acoustics sound panels will range from R185-00 for the pyramidm, corrugated and wedge panels and R195-00 for the base traps. We are in discussion with music stores to keep the product and to date, we have samples at Music Mate, Boksburg, Bedfordview, Fourways and Krugerdorp  Should you need more information on where you can buy our products, please visit the Barrier Productions web site at www.livethemusic.co.za or call Kevin on 0824906192

'Places in my Mind' turns dreams into reality for young artists.

1st July 2006

Dreams are set to become reality for five aspiring young artists when the theatre production “Places in my Mind” takes place at the Wits Theatre from 11 to 15 July 2006.

The five artists have been part of a development programme run by Kempton Park-based Barrier Productions, which focused on the development of voice, tone and stage presence, and which culminates in the staging of “Places in my Mind”.

Written by Kevin Barnard, who owns Barrier Productions, “Places in my Mind” follows a day in the life of Martin Smith, a high-flyer brought low, who is one of the growing number of people we have come to know as traffic light beggars. It is an emotional ride of feeling, hunger pains and funny sights in the traffic.

“As parents, we find ourselves nurturing and encouraging our children's skills and talents,” says Barnard. “Many of today's stars began their musical careers at events as ordinary as school talent contests and, of course, there are more sophisticated contests available today in the form of things like Idols and Coca Cola Pop Stars.

“Our show is much more than a contest, however. It has always been about developing, guiding and assisting young people who can sing – giving them the opportunity to see the light and have the marketplace meet them.

“It has been about starting at the bottom and working hard – and, although the show is the top of the first stage, doors to a future in the music industry may open for some of these young people.”

More information about “Places in my Mind” can be found of the Barrier Productions' Web site www.livethemusic.co.za. Tickets will be available at Computicket from the beginning of June.
